Senior Lecturer/Lecturer in Fine Art Critical Theory and Curatorial Practices Arts, Design and Social Sciences

Salary: SL: £37,756 - £46,400; 
         L: £32,590 - £36,661

The Department of Arts, within the Faculty of Arts, Design and Social Sciences offers a range of Fine Art programmes at Undergraduate and Master levels. We operate in a thriving studio community culture across 
a number of Newcastle city centre sites including Baltic 39 and our  main University campus.

In 2009 the Northumbria University opened Gallery North in Squires Building. The Gallery now has an established  reputation for generating contemporary art exhibitions linked to teaching and learning and the research activities in the Department of Arts and the Faculty.

We are seeking to appoint a Senior Lecturer or Lecturer who will play an active role in the vibrant and interdisciplinary research culture of the Faculty and will lead on the curatoriate team  programing exhibition projects in Gallery North.

You will be joining a collaborative and supportive team of highly dedicated Fine Art practitioners and Art and Design Historians, comprising the Visual and Material Culture Group, and will be expected to contribute to the group's national and international reputation in research through its outputs and awards. There is also the opportunity to contribute to MRes and PhD supervision in Art and Design History as well as to a new MA programme in Visual Culture set to begin in 2014.  

You must be a specialist in Fine Art Critical Theory and Curatorial Practices, with the enthusiasm and ability to teach across a range of Visual Art subjects  You should have a PhD in Fine Art or a related discipline and have a record of appropriate teaching experience in higher education. A specialist knowledge of contemporary art and exhibition programming and the ability to to demonstrate an active and robust research record supported by publications is also essential.
