Project Description:

The project „A Dialogue of the Arts" is a long-term concept, which includes Early Modern Times to the present and this for all places,
exploring the possibilities of widening and enriching the methods of  History of Art. The papers presented at these biannual conferences are
subsequently published.

Call for Papers:

„A Dialogue of the Arts: The Relationship of Exterior and Interior:
Descriptions of Architecture and Interiors in Literature of Early Modern Times to the Present"

During the earlier conferences of 2010 and 2012, which dealt with „Descriptions of Architecture in Literature of Early Modern Times to
the Present" respectively „Descriptions of Interior Design in Literature of Early Modern Times to the Present", the third conference
is devoted to the relationship of architectural interior and exterior aspects and this again relying on literature of different languages
from Early Modern Times to the present. The first two conferences have shown us that literary descriptions of different times and languages
witness the time in which they are written: They are on the one hand an important contribution for understanding the development of methods, on
the other hand they can disclose new interdisciplinary dialogues. The presentations and the following publication of the foregoing conference
have shown clearly that literary texts of different genres like prose, poetry, travelogues, diaries as well as letters and other categories
are door openers not only for new art historian perceptions, but also can give hints to new methods of our discipline. This means not only
the breaking up of the periodical conception of history of art, but also the architectural and spatial categories defined by history of art.
These are also the intentions of the third conference, dedicated to the relation of inside and outside of architecture in literary
descriptions. How far and how deep literary descriptions can scrutinize the methods of art history and in which extent this will be possible.
Furthermore the conference is interested in papers showing new perspectives for the discipline, being able to engage and continue new
dialogues for the different shifts of time and genres.
We particularly encourage the submission of proposals that crosscut cultural contexts, present diachronic perspectives or establish
relationships between different universes.
Submissions for a 30-minute presentation and edited volume should be forwarded to the Scientific Committee, which will proceed to a peer
review.

Submissions should be sent by email to barbara.vonorelli@khist.uzh.ch   until 28th February
2014, with "CFP Dialogue of the Arts 2014" as subject message;

The  abstracts should only include title and a maximum of 500 words; the  abstract must be accompanied by a different file with a curriculum
vitae (maximum: 1 page), that must include personal identification elements, the submission title, academic affiliation and a selection of
a maximum of 5 bibliographic references; Notification of acceptance will be announced until 28th February 2014.

CFP: Invention & Imagination in British Art & Architecture (London, 30 Oct-1 Nov 14)

Invention and Imagination in British Art and Architecture, 600-1500
CFP: Invention & Imagination in British Art & Architecture
(London, 30 Oct-1 Nov 14)

The British Museum and The Paul Mellon Centre, October 30 - November 1,
2014
Deadline: Mar 25, 2014

This conference will explore the ways in which artists and patrons in Britain devised and introduced new or distinctive imagery, styles and
techniques, as well as novel approaches to bringing different media together. It is concerned with the mechanisms of innovation, with
inventive and imaginative processes, and with the relations between conventions and individual expression. The conversation will therefore
also address the very notions of sameness and difference in medieval art and architecture, and how these may be evaluated and explained
historically.

Topics for discussion can include authorship, creativity, experimentation, envisaging, representation, and regulation by guilds or
patrons, as well as case studies of particular objects, buildings, commissions or practices.

The conference will take place on 30th October - 1st November at the Paul Mellon Centre and The British Museum; it will include
collaborations with the museum's Department of Prehistory & Europe and opportunities to see works from the collection.

Papers should be of 20 minutes duration. Proposals/abstracts of 500 words should be submitted to Ella Fleming by 25 March 2014:

efleming@paul-mellon-centre.ac.uk

Conference organised by the Paul Mellon Centre, with Sandy Heslop(University of East Anglia), Jessica Berenbeim (University of Oxford), Lloyd DeBeer and Naomi Speakman (The British Museum).

henning larsen architects has completed the construction of the new 'moesgård museum' in aarhus, denmark, a regional institution which also serves as dedicated center for archaeology and ethnography. the design provides the area and its people with a striking new landmark, offering a fresh perspective on danish history from the stone age to the middle ages.

the scheme is defined by a sloping roof plane which grows out of the terrain creating an expansive external area of recreation. in summer the space will form an area for picnics and outdoor lectures, while during the snowy winter months the angled canopy will be transformed into a toboggan run. the integrated structure reads as a natural mound in the danish landscape, fusing nature and architecture.

the terraced landscape is continued to the interior, where volumes reflect archeological excavations, allowing visitors to gradually uncover the museum. the project will provide a framework for innovative forms of presentation and communication, with spaces throughout the design crafted to allow for insight, reflection and interaction.

exhibition galleries will offer areas dedicated to research projects from the nearby university of aarhus. in addition, the building will accommodate a gift shop, café, educational and conference facilities and a 250 seat auditorium. 'moesgård museum' is currently preparing new exhibitions and will open to the public in october 2014.

Private villa in Dubai by NAGA Architects

Private villa in Dubai by NAGA Architects

Dubai-based studio NAGA Architects sent us photos of this private villa located in Dubai, a city in the United Arab Emirates.
This project was completed in 2011.
Private villa in Dubai,UAE, by NAGA Architects:
"Who says that cubism is boring? Certainly not Sultan Mohammed Aqil Ali Hassan Al Zarooni or his family. The large, SM villa in Dubai is designed on an ordered system of rectangular planes and facets, giving way some in places for recessed balconies and extruding outward in others to express expanded interior spaces and views. The villa is surrounded on all sides with private and 'public' water features and pools, creating a connection to the cool liquid medium from within.
The interior space is remarkable in its ability to be expended by the clever use of articulated panels at the ground level, turning carefully segmented spaces into a grand hall for large gathering and entertainment. The first level is dedicated to private living and sleeping with the 'wings' connected by a overhead walkway, looking down into the magnificently appointed ground floor spaces."
