Toronto Central Waterfront

Toronto Central Waterfront

West 8, an urban design and landscape architecture firm, collaborated with Toronto-based firm DTAH, and together won the 2006 Toronto Central Waterfront Innovative Design competition.  The plan includes the design and reconstruction of Queen's Quay Boulevard, a continuous water's edge promenade and boardwalk, the design of wave decks and timber bridges at the seven heads of slips.  The revitalization is underway, and the Spadina, Simcoe and Rees wave decks have already been completed.  The wave decks explore the variations of the change in level between Queen's Quay Boulevard and Lake Ontario.  Inspired by the sinuous contours of the Canadian lakefront shoreline, the public space responds organically to pinched places where the streetscape meets the water's edge.
