joho architecture / jeong hoon lee: namhae house renovation
award-winning korean architect jeong hoon lee, principle of joho architecture has recently finished a renovation for a house in namhae, south korea.
a rural environment dotted with poorly copied red brick and wooden houses from the west, the remodel brings back a sense of unique identity and
strengthened relationship to the dense forest surroundings. by subtracting certain volumes of the original home, a large entry terrace is created,
lifted off the ground by a reinterpreted brick and wood deck construction, with a ramp that wraps around a small garden incorporating more green
elements into the new design.  providing much of the aesthetic characteristic, a large curving steel frame holds a thin reticulated aluminum louver
system, sandblasted white, that creates a threshold of privacy while allowing the free movement of air and filtration of light. voids in the mesh create
apertures to connect the resident to the indigenous landscape. much of the interior was left intact, save the added skylights in the kitchen area,
and a newly accessible rooftop terrace.

It is located in the former industrial area of Danks Street, which has lately become a trendy hub for the designer commercial set. The triple-frontage building contains 4,000sqm of office space over two levels, a supermarket and specialty retail stores on the ground floor.

Converted 19th Century Church Now a Spacious Rental

A historic church built in 1870 with soaring ceilings, stained glass windows and all of the design details you would expect in such a structure is now available for short-term rentals in Utrecht, Netherlands. The church was converted into a spacious residence, its interior painted white for a bright and open effect. The addition of modular floors and stairways adds more living space without compromising the building's original layout.

3D Basketball Court

3D Basketball Court

This is definitively something new. Designed by Inges Idee, this basketball court called "3D²" is located in Munich in it's unique in the world."A regulation-sized basketball court was erected on the grove-like forecourt of the school building of the occupational school. The court consists of a soft orange-red tartan covering and two normed baskets and seems to be forced over the grid of the lamps that have been set up. The playable court has been "morphed" as in a 3D program on a computer and looks like the grounds of a rollercoaster, with heights and depths and calm and dynamic zones. The resulting paradox, which moves between a normative set of rules and pleasurable, anarchic change, requires creative engagement for its use."
