"The Empowerment of Local Authorities:
Spatial Information and Spatial Planning Tools"

The aim of this workshop is to study the impact of spatial information and spatial planning tools on economic, social and environmental aspects of local authorities in general, and on the empowerment of local authorities in particular. The aim is also to investigate the international knowledge and practice on how surveyors may assist real estate markets, good governance, environmental management and planning initiatives by providing reliable spatial and relevant infrastructures.

The sessions planned in this workshop present an opportunity for local and international researchers to present their research and work that is related to workshop's topics. These sessions aim to encourage information sharing and discourse among participants regarding specific themes that influence spatial information and spatial planning tools on economic, social and environmental aspects of local authorities in general, and on the empowerment of local authorities in particular.

Session Themes

This workshop would like to encourage the submission of researches and technical papers that deal with any of the following themes:
  • Spatial Information Infrastructure
  • Technical Aspects of Spatial Information Infrastructure
  • Cadastre and Land management

Procedure

All submitted papers should be focused on the above aspects directly. Pay particular attention to research methods, key results and language. Two channels exist for submitting papers: full paper refereed channel and abstract refereed channel.
Full Paper
Prospective authors shall submit a full paper for blind peer-review (approximately 6000 words) in English with details of affiliation, telephone and fax numbers, mail and email addresses of the first or corresponding author on or before August 20, 2011 togapos@tee.gr  (gapos AT tee DOT gr)or  doytsher@technion.ac.il (doytsher AT technion DOT ac.il). Papers will be under double-blind review process. Notice of acceptance for presentation will be sent by email &/or fax before August 31, 2011, while notice of acceptance through peer review will be sent by email &/or fax before September 20, 2011. Full papers accepted for presentation (in English) must be submitted on or before October 10, 2011 in Microsoft Office Word format.
Please note, those interested in the peer-reviewed channel should state this when submitting the full paper. Papers submitted in this channel must not have been accepted for publication elsewhere or be under review for another workshop or conference.
Extended Abstract Paper
Prospective authors shall submit an abstract for peer-review (approximately 350 - 500 words) describing the objectives, results, conclusions and significance of the work. Abstracts should be in English with details of affiliation, telephone and fax numbers, mail and email addresses of the first or corresponding author on or before August 20, 2011 to gapos@tee.gr (gapos AT tee DOT gr)or  doytsher@technion.ac.il (doytsher AT technion DOT ac.il). Abstracts will be under review process. Notice of acceptance for presentation will be sent by email &/or fax before August 31, 2011. Full papers accepted for presentations (in English) must be submitted on or before October 10, 2011 in Microsoft Office Word format.


Publication of Accepted Papers

Accepted papers will be orally presented during the parallel sessions and will be published in the proceedings of the workshop. Full papers accepted after peer-review will be considered to be published in a special issue journal publication. Authors of accepted full papers should indicate whether they agree to have their papers published.

August 20, 2011 - Deadline of submission of extended abstracts and full papers
August 31, 2011 - Notification of acceptance for presentation
September 20, 2011 - Notification of acceptance of full papers through the peer review
October 10, 2011 - Final revised paper submission deadline (camera ready)
October 25-28, 2011 - Workshop and annual meeting
